Geo-cachers want to know if Magellan built the eXplorist 600 to take a beating?

March 30th, 2006

GPS-Magellan eXplorist 600 for geo-caching!
Is Magellan eXplorist 600 a feather weight GPS handheld with a blurry screen?
The first thing we felt in our hike with Magellan eXplorist 600 –yeah that’s what we said, felt– was the eXplorist’s tough exterior casing-this baby is for real- tough, durable rubber protected with impact resistant plastic, hell, we even dropped it and banged it around a bit (we don’t recommend doing this ) and Magellan explorist 600 was still up to par– like an old Timex watch–it took a licken’ and kept on tickin’. It even felt pretty decent in my hand at only 2.1 x 4.6 x 1.3, under 4 ounces, not bad at all!

Whoever said light weights can’t be tough was dead wrong. We got a wopping 14 hours out of it’s rechargeable lithium-ion battery and even took it for a swim with no problems cause it’s a waterproof GPS unit watertight & sealed to “IPX-7 specifications”.

Does Magellan eXplorist 600 really deliver PC-like management or mismanagement??

The answer is that Magellan eXplorist 600 GPS is one of the first GPS handhelds capable of delivering PC-like file management. Yup, that’s what I said. A miniture PC it’s not but we were able to create some directories, files and folders.

And we got to give credit where it’s due:

The Magellan GPS map screen was pretty clear and easy to use as was the navigation keypad and joystick control was super smooth. With the 8 MB built-in mapping, unlimited flash-memory expansion & unlimited secure digital (SD) card storage the Magellan eXplorist 600 is designed for both use in the big city and out in the country.

Hassle FREE:

Your geo-cache treasures are not unreachable —no need to go online, grab coordinates, jot them down and then enter them into the GPS handheld.

Magellan geocaching manager software allows you to just easily load the data you need directly to Magellan eXplorist like magic so you can pack-up your gear and be on your way.

When it comes to GPS handheld devices designed for ‘geo-caching’ the 16-color display Magellan eXplorist 600 receiver is second to none. We didn’t want to miss the opportunity to share with you one of the best and most dependable GPS systems around for the outdoorsman.
Great Magellan eXplorist 600 spotted online.
