GPS Monitoring and Tracking for Criminals

December 30th, 2005

More and more lately we are witnessing how GPS technology like GPS Tracking and GPS Monitoring offers much needed solutions to make our society safer and more livable. NavigatorGPS applauds Republican State Senator Brent E. Steele from Indiana for drafting a law requiring convicted sex offenders to submit to lifelong GPS monitoring. The Indiana bill would require convicted child molesters to wear a Global Positioning System (GPS) device following their release from prison.

On the other hand, Marc Mauer, executive director of The Sentencing Project, a Washington-based criminal justice think tank, believes that while some chronic child abusers may need prolonged supervision, others may maintain a spotless record after leaving prison. While there are other lawmakers that hold positions similar to this questioning the necessity for the bill and its implications for civil rights despite the fact that “even abusers will tell you that once you’re a pedophile, you’re always a pedophile,” as Senator Brent E. Steele commented.

NavigatorGPS believes that Steele’s legislative efforts should be supported, this is an opportunity to put GPS technology and navigation sytems to great use to improve law enforcement and thus protect our society from criminals. NavigatorGPS calls on all sectors of the political system to support Steele–this is one issue that ought to be supported across the political spectrum regardless if you are a liberal or conservative.
